IEC/SC37B annual meeting and working groups meeting of MT1, MT2, WG1, WG2 and WG3 were held in Shanghai On October 18, 2019. The Standardization Administration of China undertook this meeting, the national lightning arrester standardization committee as a Chinese counterpart of IEC/SC37B appointed Zhang Nanfa of Changzhou chuangjie lightning protection co., LTD., Zhou Qibin of Shanghai university, Huang Yong of xi 'an high voltage apparatus research institute co., LTD., Zhao Yang of Shanghai lightning prevention center and other seven experts to the convention.

In recent years, Chinese experts have been continuously participating in the work of IEC / SC37B. Zhang nanfa's team in China has been carrying out a lot of basic research work on varistor (MOV), gas discharge tube (GDT) and other components. At the MT1 working group meeting from 15th to 16th, the Chinese delegation submitted the revision plan of IEC 61643-311 and 312 (GDT). The working group fully affirmed the preliminary work of Chinese experts on GDT, decided to establish a new TF working group to carry out the revisions of two standards, and fully absorbed China's opinions under the new standard framework. At the same time, the fourth edition of IEC 61643-331 (MOV) framework was discussed and confirmed, and suggestions on MOV life assessment proposed by Chinese experts were adopted. At the SC37B annual meeting on the 18th, representatives from countries unanimously affirmed a series of basic researches conducted by Chinese experts on MOV and decided to establish a new project team PT 61643-333 (scientific and academic topic of MOV), whose content framework was initially determined as "life evaluation and characteristic equation of MOV". Chinese expert Dr. Zhou Qibin was the convener. This is not only a major breakthrough in the international standardization work of the standard committee, but also an affirmation of the level of China's MOV industry, which has improved the international status and voice of China's varistor industry. Then, the standard committee will set up a domestic expert working group to carry out the later work, which is just the beginning. The international standardization work has a long way to go.
